Macao uses an eight-digit public telephone numbering plan

Macao upgraded fixed, mobile and direct internal telephone numbers to eight digits. Internationally, ordinary Macao numbers are presented with country code +853 followed by the eight-digit national number, which makes the format different from nearby mainland China (+86) and Hong Kong (+852).

Macao, Macau and +853 refer to the same numbering territory

Searchers often use both “Macao” and “Macau.” For phone-number purposes, the relevant country calling code is +853. Do not confuse a Macao number with a Hong Kong +852 number or a mainland China +86 number simply because all three are geographically close.

A +853 prefix alone does not prove a number is mobile

Macao’s telecom authority publishes number ranges allocated to operators, including mobile ranges beginning with 6. However, MyTempSMS does not infer carrier, mobile status, VoIP status or non-VoIP status from the country code alone. Check the number detail page for any verified attributes.

How to use a Macao public SMS inbox

Choose an available +853 number, copy it as displayed, submit it to the service that is sending the SMS, and then reopen the inbox to look for the incoming message. The number list is dynamic, so a number may appear, disappear or change access mode over time.

Why a free Macao inbox should not be used for sensitive recovery

Public messages can be read by other visitors. A free public number is therefore unsuitable as a long-term recovery number or for financial, medical, payment or identity-sensitive accounts. If the page shows rental or code-locked access, review those separate conditions instead of assuming they are free.

Frequently asked questions

What is the calling code for Macao?

Macao uses country calling code +853. Standard public fixed and mobile telephone numbers are eight digits after the country code.

Is Macau the same as Macao for phone-number searches?

Yes. Both spellings commonly refer to the same special administrative region and the same +853 telephone numbering territory.

Can I receive SMS online with a free Macao number?

Yes, when a public +853 number is currently listed and the sender delivers to it. Public inbox use is free, but delivery and sender acceptance are not guaranteed.

Do I add a leading zero after +853?

Normally no domestic trunk zero is added before an eight-digit Macao public number in international format. Use the number exactly as displayed on its detail page.

Are all +853 numbers mobile numbers?

No. +853 is the country code. Macao has fixed, mobile and other allocated ranges, so line type should not be inferred from the country code alone.

Can other people read SMS sent to a public Macao number?

Yes. Public inbox messages may be visible to anyone who opens that inbox, so never use them for confidential or long-term account recovery.
